Funding protection forests to prevent erosion
The Reforest Trust is a registered charitable trust based in Wellington. Our ten-year goal is to reforest 30,000 ha of eroding and erodible hill country to reduce the damage from storm events associated with climate change.

To fund the costs of planting and managing these forests we will either accept donations, or enter into forward sale and purchase agreements for NZ Emissions Units generated by the forests as they grow.
Individuals, organisations and businesses who want to offset their greenhouse gas emissions may make tax deductible donations to the Trust, which is a registered charity.
Under a forward sale and purchase agreement we will deliver to the purchaser specified numbers of Units on scheduled dates, in exchange for an agreed stream of payments that cover the forest growing costs. Each contract is transferable and may be traded on a secondary market.
We plan and manage our forests in such a way that the total Units received from the Government cover all of our forward contract obligations with a wide margin for risk.
